Tasqebap (tas-che-bap) is a traditional Albanian recipe that will be shared today, yet simplified to make it accessible for all to follow and enjoy. The ingredients are simple, gut-friendly, and incredibly tasty when combined and slow-cooked for a few hours.
There's nothing like wandering through the house, enjoying the smell of homemade beef soup. This simple version is warming, hearty, and takes just 30 minutes of prep time, which you can then leave for a few hours on the stove.

Ingredients
1kg lean diced beef
1 large white onion
1 large beef tomato
1 green bell pepper
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 tbsp plain flour
1 tbsp olive oil
2 litres of boiled water
Instructions
Heat the oil in a large stock pot pan
Finely dice the white onion and cook until soft and light brown
Add the beef and plain flour and cook the ingredients until brown, for around 10 minutes
Dice the tomato and pepper and add to the stock pot, cook for a further 5 minutes
Add the paprika, ground black pepper, salt, and tomato puree, and combine well
Pour in the boiled water and leave to cook for 3-4 hours, until the beef is very soft and easy to break apart
Tasqebap (beef soup) is made with simple, nutritious ingredients and paired deliciously with rice and/or fresh bread.
This is a simplified recipe, one that you can easily personalize to make your own. You could add carrots, peas, potatoes, or various vegetables. Or, cook with beef fat to add more flavour and nutrition.
